美都餐室 Mido Cafe-Neon Lights of Hong Kong I Fine Art Print
Unsure about the frame styles? Check out our [Frame & Size Guide] for detailed photos and specs.
Mido Cafe: Yaumatei’s Neon Shadows and the Swan Song of an Era
Since opening in January 1950, the Mido Cafe has stood proudly beside the Tin Hau Temple in Yaumatei, serving as a corner sentinel witnessing half a century of Hong Kong’s changing tides. Preserving its authentic 1950s interior and iconic second-floor lounge, it remains a tender vessel of collective memory for generations of Hongkongers, as well as an indispensable silver-screen backdrop for classic films such as The Kowloon Ice Room and PTU.
Yet, what truly gave it a soul was the signature neon glow that once drifted through the Yaumatei night. Driven by recent government regulations and strict enforcement by the Buildings Department, countless classic neon signs symbolizing the soul of Hong Kong have been forced down, turning that once-dazzling streetscape into a fading echo. This artwork not only freezes the bygone glory of Mido Cafe but also captures an irreplaceable swan song before the city’s unique neon heritage vanished forever. To gaze upon this scene is to step into the timeless depth where Hong Kong’s light and memory intertwine.Bespoke Production:
Each artwork is made to order at a premier UK-certified professional print laboratory. Utilizing Giclée archival processes, we ensure gallery-standard precision and color longevity.
The Gallery Border:
To facilitate professional mounting and highlight the work's depth, all prints feature an elegant white border:
16 × 12”(40×30cm) / 20 × 16” (50×40cm) ,* Includes a 4.5cm border.
24 x 36” / 28 x 40”:* Includes a 5cm border.
(Note: These borders are in addition to the image size, providing ample space for framing without touching the printed surface.)
Choose ‘Fine Art Print’ for an unframed print — sized to fit standard frames, so you can easily find a matching frame at IKEA or any home decor store. Or select a framed option above for a ready-to-hang piece.
